Connect: Shopify

We publish your articles as native Shopify blog articles, in your theme, and keep them up to date. You create a small private app for your store in Shopify (about 5 minutes) and paste two values into your dashboard.

What you get

  • New articles appear as published blog articles moments after you publish them in Blogs for SEO.
  • Edits update the same article; unpublished articles are hidden again. If an article's address changes, Shopify redirects the old one.
  • Title, address, summary, image, tags, author, and the SEO title and description are filled in.
  • Every hour we check for anything missed, and fix it.

Create the app in Shopify

Do this signed in as the store owner (or a staff member with the App development permission), so the app belongs to the same organization as the store.

  1. Open the Dev Dashboard at dev.shopify.com. From your store's admin you can also reach it through Settings → Apps → Develop apps.
  2. Under Apps, click Create app, choose Start from Dev Dashboard, name it "Blogs for SEO", and click Create.
  3. On the app's Versions page, keep the suggested App URL, and under Scopes add exactly these two: read_content, write_content. Click Release.
  4. Open the app and click Install app on its Installs card. In the tab that opens, pick your store and click Install.
  5. Open the app's Settings and copy the Client ID and the Client secret.

Connect

  1. In your Blogs for SEO dashboard, open Connect your website → Shopify.
  2. Enter your store's name (acme or acme.myshopify.com, as in your admin's address), paste the Client ID and Client secret, and press Connect.

We check them with your store before saving, then import your published articles into your store's first blog. The secret is stored encrypted. Shopify gives us access for 24 hours at a time, and we renew it on our own.

Already have an app you created in your Shopify admin before 2026? Paste its Admin API access token (it starts with shpat_) instead of the Client ID and secret.

Show the structured data

Shopify themes control a page's structured data, so we save ours on each article and your theme prints it. In Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code, open the article template (sections/main-article.liquid in most themes, or templates/article.liquid), and add this line at the top:

{% if article.metafields.blogsforseo.json_ld %}<script type="application/ld+json">{{ article.metafields.blogsforseo.json_ld.value | json }}</script>{% endif %}

Save. Your articles now carry their article, FAQ and breadcrumb data for search engines.

Make your blog visible

The articles are on your store; give visitors a way to find them: in Shopify admin, open Content → Menus → your main menu → Add menu item, choose Blogs and pick the blog the posts go to (your store's first blog, usually News), then Save.

Good to know

  • "This app isn't in the same Shopify organization as the store": the app was created from an account that doesn't own the store. Create it again while signed in as the store owner.
  • "The app can't write blog posts": add the read_content and write_content scopes on the app's Versions page, click Release, and approve the update in your store.
  • llms.txt and IndexNow: Shopify can't serve these files, so we skip them for Shopify stores. Shopify's own sitemap lists your articles for Google and Bing.
  • Disconnecting: press Disconnect in your dashboard. To stop all access, uninstall the app in your store too. Articles already on your store stay.

Rather not do this yourself? We can set it up for you.
